10. In addition to the importance of mathematics in the normal seienes courses and in Social Science (statistics), it was agreed that to develop the aptitude for mathematical studies not. ?. among Chinese students good Honours courses in Pure and Applieû Mathematics should be developed. The Chairman emphasized the importance of keeping in mind that, if good was to be achieved, sound Honours schools in all subjects must be developed.

11. It was commonly agreed that there should be development in the teaching of philosophy and that provision should be made for tue study of Indian and Chinese thought against a background study of basic Western philosophy. The Chairman thought that provision in a Department of Philosophy should be made for the study of the History of science. Mr. Adams suggested that as classical studies in the West comprehended the stuuy both of history and philosophy so studies of Chinese and English by Chinese students should bs developed with the same comprehensiveness.

12. The Committee thought it was important that provision should be made for a Department in which adequate provision could be made for the study of geography on modern methods.

B. Faculty of Science.

13. It was agreed that the essential departments were ajal 'ments of Chemistry, Physics, Botany and Zoology.

(a) No special emphasis appeared to be called for on way distinctive branch of chemistry.

(b) The suggested development of the study of buclear physics in China would best bc achieved by the training of good Hor-urg graduates of the Univ rsity of Hong Kong at a British univeristy

(c) By rensen of the gcographical position of Hong Kong and the existence of a scheme for a Fisheries Research Institute it was importance that special emphasis should fall ol. Marin Biology.

14. It was suggested that no wide development was called for in the teaching of Botany and Geology in Hong Kong because of the restrictions imposed by the restriced species nl types of the eras.

15. Certain members of the Committed were of opinion that tog studier in physiology, anatomy and biochemistry should be organisel within the Faculty of science even though the Department of Pathology should tend to become annexed to the Faculty of Medicine and the teaching hospital.

C. Faculty of Medicine.

16. After discussion, it was generally agreed

(a) that in audition to provision for the teaching of m›licine and surgery already muie, it was desirable that. the Department că Public Health and Preventive Medicine should be developed, that the facilities offered by the municipal organisation of Hong Kong el cle be exploited to the full for tenoning purposes, that an Inalatung of Public Health should be developed with the aim of affording comprehensive courses in Preventive Medicine for gredunte students.

(b) that the further development of the study of Paclictins desirable.
